There is no better way to say goodbye to summer than spending time in the beautiful scenery of the South Carolina low country. Montage Palmetto Bluff is the perfect place for couples, or the whole family to escape the craziness of quarantine and truly rejuvenate and relax. Montage Palmetto Bluff has adapted its everyday amenities to make its property safe and clean for guests to social distance, while still enjoying everything the resort has to offer without feeling the pains of the pandemic.
When checking into the Inn, plexiglass dividers are placed in front of each front desk, as all employees greet you with big smiles, behind their Montage labeled masks. The same dividers are also placed at the front desk of the Spa as well as the concierge desk so guests can keep their distance when interacting with staff. Montage Palmetto Bluff has placed ample hand sanitizing stations throughout the property as well as requires guests to wear masks when inside the different areas of the property (lobby, restaurants, shops, spa, etc) keeping in line with the regulations and recommendations of the CDC.

When grabbing a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants on property, reservations are required to make sure guests can be distanced from other guests. All of the menus on property are contactless and can be viewed by scanning a QR code that is placed on every table. While grabbing drinks at the bar at Cole’s restaurant, I was greeted by a masked bartender who gave me a paper menu that is disposed of after each guest. Even sitting at the bar, I felt distanced from all other guests at the restaurant and watched each bartender sanitize the bar surface continually after each guest interaction.

My favorite activity of the weekend was obviously lounging by the pool. The adults only pool looks out on the May River and lagoon truly creating a low country oasis. As I shuffled through my pool bag to find my mask before heading to the pool bar, I was pleasantly surprised when the bartender, Eric, took our orders directly from our lounge chairs. The poolside service elevated our pool experience by being able to only be in contact with the guests of my party, and not multiple staff members. Our time spent at the Canoe Club pool was just as relaxing as the chairs were spaced out for social distancing. When going up to the pool bar, plexi-glass dividers were placed in front of the masked bartenders, as guests were also required to wear masks while ordering refreshments. There were also markers that guided guests in line on where to stand, making sure 6 feet were in between each party. Even with all of these regulations in place I was able to sip on sangria while a live DJ played poolside all day long, feeling as if I was at my own personal pool party.

The most important amenity offered at the Montage Palmetto Bluff is of course, the complimentary smores bonfire. There is a cart located at the bonfire, where a staff member usually hands out all of your smores supplies. To make this family-fun tradition more COVID friendly, each guest is given a sealed package including marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers to limit the contact with the staff. The number of packages per guest is unlimited, so obviously my friends and I were able to enjoy as many smores as our hearts desired, which were many.
With a property that is larger than the island of Manhattan, Montage Palmetto Bluff is the ultimate spot for a quarantine-cation. Renting a golf cart or taking a bike ride around the property is a must in order to see all of the beautiful landscapes. With all of that space I felt as if I had the entire property to myself, even during a busy holiday weekend. Whether staying in a beautiful suite at the Inn, or renting an entire residence, the staff at Montage Palmetto Bluff have adapted to this new era of traveling during a pandemic in such a way that gives guests the feel of being on a truly private and secluded vacation while still enjoying each and every amenity.
