We sat down with Epperly Advisor, Kate Konigsberg, to talk about her recent trip to Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. She hit the road to visit as many destinations as she could so she now has first-hand experience to work with travelers who want to head west!
Why were you inspired to go out West?
There is so much of our beautiful country that tends to be easily overlooked, which I am guilty of myself. This was my first time visiting any of the national parks in Wyoming, Montana, and Utah and it was incredible. This has been such a difficult year for everyone and has really reinforced in me not to take for granted what we have – including our country. Even though there may not be a perfect answer to when to travel again, I do think there are ways to travel and do it safely – that is why you work with myself or your travel agent to navigate best.
What was your favorite destination and why?
I would say it is a tie between Jackson Hole and Park City. I love being in such a unique small town with great accommodation options, great eats, and things to do nearby. Not to mention they both are great “hub spots” to stay since you are surrounded by national parks a quick drive away.
Why did you choose the path in which you took your road trip?
It was a little last minute, but we knew we want to cover as much ground as possible flying into and out of Salt Lake City. We started in SLC landed pretty early and rented a jeep to start our road trip by driving to Jackson Hole. We then basically made one big loop over 2 weeks with stops in West Yellowstone, North Yellowstone, Big Sky, and Park City.
Which hotels did you stay at along the way?
I stayed at The Anvil in Jackson Hole, Under Canvas in Yellowstone, The Wilson Hotel in Big Sky, and The Montage Deer Valley.
How was the weather this time of year?
The weather was quite literally perfection. I so enjoyed getting a break from the end of summer GA heat. The morning consistently started in the high 40’s/low 50’s and then by midday would be in the high 70’s with no humidity.
What activities did you do in each location?
The number of activities in each of these areas is pretty incredible. We did a river float on Snake River in Jackson with a private fly fishing guide, tons of stunning hikes, mountain biking, and sightseeing throughout Yellowstone & Tetons.
What is your overall takeaway from the trip?
My tips would be – If you are doing a longer trip always make sure laundry is available at your accommodations or that they have service to outsource to. Plan all the activities but also plan time to enjoy the amenities at your accommodations- it’s always easy to overfill your schedule.
What type of traveler do you suggest taking a similar trip?
I would suggest this trip for anyone and everyone, all ages, families, groups, or couples. You can stay in 5-star accommodations or high-end glamping or a mix of both like I did. Outdoorsy or not, there are ways to enjoy this beautiful part of the country whether it is from a guided hiking expedition, hot air balloon ride, or private jet charter into the park.
