Gili Lankanfushi: Natural Luxury in the Maldives
While some of the resorts I’m featuring this week have an agenda to be completely modern and trendy, Gili Lankanfushi takes a more naturalistic approach. The resort strives to showcase the natural beauty of its surroundings, the very essence an homage to the ecological balance of the island. Known for its green initiatives, Gili Lankanfushi uses sustainable woods, natural minerals and traditional fabrics in an effort to reflect the natural habitat of the Maldives. The best part of Gili’s organic approach: not one ounce of luxury is sacrificed in order to practice this sustainable living. A recent change in ownership (formerly known as Soneva Gili) has only managed to better what Gili Lankanfushi has to offer.
The property consists of all over water villas starting at a whopping 2,260 square feet. The villas are complete with both rooftop and overwater sun decks, open air private bathrooms with separate glass-walled shower areas and oversized tubs, 24-hour butler service, and more. While the Villa Suites and Residence Villas are located along a series of jetties, the Crusoe Residences are accesible only by boat, perfect for the ultimate seclusion.
This Villa Suite is the smallest room available at Gili Lankanfushi!
Another quick boat ride from the main hotel will also take you to the Private Reserve, a 15,000 square foot stand-alone private over water residence that is the largest in the world, perfect for families or multiple couples traveling together.
Not only are Gili Lankanfushi’s accommodations unique, the dining choices are also one-of-a-kind. For instance, guests can enjoy cocktails and meals at the Over Water Bar, which is also home to the Over Water Grill. An even more culinary-rich experience is the Wine Cellar and Underground Chocolate Cave. The resident sommelier will guide guests in their choice of over 600 bottles of wine during the hosted wine tasting or wine dinners. Along the way, expect fantastic pairings with artisanal cheeses, cold cuts from the deli room, and, of course, an assortment of chocolates.
The property has a very laid back atmosphere, one that Linara labels as the best of the best in “Barefoot Luxury,” making it a fantastic option to pair with another, more upbeat property in the Maldives. Also, it’s very easy to access – only a 20 minute speedboat ride from the Malé International Airport.
This resort is a Virtuoso property, which means I’m able to offer exclusive amenities, like an upgrade if available and a 30 minute Six Senses Signature spa treatment for two. With a five night stay, I’ll even be able to offer a complimentary shoreline beach dinner, private sunset sailing by Dhoni, and a Six Senses cuisine cooking class for two. Not to sound like an infomercial, but we can get you even great perks through our partners at Linara, like an opportunity to stay 7 nights and pay for 4, complete with half board, transfers, and 15% savings for an early bird special.
