I realize I’m taking my sweet time posting about the properties I toured in Mexico and, even though I haven’t had a chance to sit down and write about them, I have been able to recommend them like crazy. The three luxury all inclusives that I visited in the Riviera Maya area offer a tremendous bang for your buck and I’ve found that Royal Hideaway Playacar often prices out less than most mass market all inclusives that, I’ll be honest, don’t even touch the quality here.
This boutique luxury resort is located in the Playacar area of Riviera Maya, which was the Cancun equivalent of Seaside, Florida. People were riding their bikes along picturesque roads, dotted with tropical trees and villa after villa. The entire community seemed so…safe. Is this the same Mexico that we’ve been afraid of visiting for years? The quiet Playacar area is not only safe, it’s as far from a typical spring breakers’ Cancun as you can get. Kayla and I were enamored as we pulled into the hotel’s driveway, greeted by a very stately looking entrance.
Royal Hideaway has a very traditional elegance with a latin flare. The AAA-rated four diamond resort, owned by Occidental, is known for its excellent service and luxurious accommodations. Since the resort is situated longer than it is wide, most of the rooms are luxury rooms, which have garden views and are a bit set back from the beach. However, the property is small enough that even these rooms have a very, very short walk to the beach.
Even the entry level rooms have a ton of space and fantastic features, like separate bathtubs, walk in showers, balconies, and more. I’m a big bubble bath person while on vacation, so I’m always on the lookout for an excellent bathtub:
The main pool area is situated next too a few of the property’s restaurants, all of which is located behind one of the widest beaches I’ve ever seen. No need to wake up early for a spot on the beach here, there’s room enough for everyone.
Besides the great service and accommodations, the dining that is included in the up-front price is something else that makes Royal Hideaway a fantastic value. Their gourmet restaurants provide a fine dining experience (men, don’t forget your collared shirts and closed shoes!) that only adds to the overall dining atmosphere. Even though you’re kicking off your shoes in the sand during the day, it can be fun to get a little fancy for a nice dinner at night…right? Am I alone in liking to dress up while on vacation?
