When we created the Epperly Travel hosting program, we did so with the travel advisor’s journey in mind. We’ve felt the industry was unclear on the kind of growth and scaling that could occur within an advisor’s book of business and we’re seeking to improve that. One of those hurdles that is not spoken of enough is the inevitable plateau that tends to occur around that million-dollar mark in sales. It’s such a huge accomplishment to get to that milestone, but it’s so easy to burn out if you don’t take the time to create systems to manage your ever-growing book of business.
This week, we’re focusing on our tips to help you overcome that plateau. Remember: everyone’s journey is different. This might look like hiring to some, it might look like outsourcing to others.
Revisit your business plan – If you created a business plan when you first started, now’s the time to dust it off. Business plans aren’t meant to be sacred artifacts: they should grow alongside you. If you haven’t made one yet, now’s the time – because you have a million-dollar book of business that needs your thoughtful planning.
Crunch the numbers – Pay special attention to your budget when you’re diving into that business plan. You’ll want to put pen to paper on what you need to save, what you need to live off of, and what you can afford to reinvest in your business.
Define your goals – You hit a million – now what?! Take a moment to decide what you want to happen next. Do you want to scale that volume under your name or under your brand? Do you want to only wear the sales hat and offload the back office, or do you want to mentor? Determining these goals will give you clarity on where you invest your time and money moving forward.
