Thailand Testimonial: Katie & Steve’s Honeymoon Adventure

When Katie and Steve were first referred to me (I’m always thrilled to receive referrals from past clients!), they had no idea where they wanted to honeymoon, but they had a very clear idea of how they wanted their honeymoon to go. During our initial conversation, Katie described that their dream destination would have a combination of time spent in a city environment paired nicely with days full of relaxing on the beach. The key to helping me pair her and her fiancé, Steve, with the perfect destination was when she began describing their love of culture – they wanted somewhere they could encounter a new sense of place and experience sites that were completely unique to their travel history.

Having just returned and knowing that the destination would be a perfect fit, I immediately threw out the idea of Thailand to see how the couple would react. In all honesty, they were not loving it to begin with. I always like to find out why clients don’t like a destination, just as much as I like to find out why they DO like certain destinations, so I can get a better picture of what it is they’re looking for or trying to avoid. In this case, they had a hard time putting their finger on what they didn’t like about Thailand – it came down to the fact that the destination was one they had never considered, a completely foreign concept.

I asked Katie and Steve to trust me and at least let me put together an itinerary for them since I felt so strongly it would be the perfect place for their dream honeymoon. Working closely with one of my incredible Virtuoso partners, I hand-crafted an itinerary that would fit Katie and Steve’s interests in personalities – striving to create the perfect balance of new experiences with plenty of down time to relax. Ultimately, we came up with one amazing Thailand itinerary, copied below (I don’t often get jealous of clients’ travel, but I wanted to go on this trip!).

Katie and Steve recently returned from their getaway, which they took right after the Military Coup in Thailand. We feared the coup might throw a wrinkle into the itinerary, but my incredible partner company kept us in the loop prior to their departure and kept them comfortable and unaffected every step of the way. Upon welcoming them back home, I was slightly nervous to hear from them – anytime I put my neck on the line as an agent and ask clients to trust me with an idea that they never would’ve dreamt up on their own, I have to be 110% certain I’ve used the right partner tour companies, hotels, and have crafted an itinerary that will fit them (otherwise, guess who is blamed if the trip isn’t as expected!). Luckily, the couple’s honeymoon was above and beyond their expectation, Katie kindly took the time to put together her feedback:

Overall the trip was incredible. We enjoyed pieces of every city and experience. Our guide in Bangkok, Angela, was top notch and made sure we experiences the local culture. She took us to one of our favorite meals on the trip on the very first day, which really kicked things off great. The Peninsula Hotel was awesome and the staff was so nice. We especially enjoyed the surprise champagne and dessert – such a nice treat!

Once we arrived in Chiang Mai we were blown away by the resort. It was so beautiful and open and in a great location. Our room was beautiful as well and the staff was great in letting us check-in early and drop our bags. We honestly loved everything we did in Chiang Mai and it was my favorite stop of the trip (besides the beach of course).

The day with elephants was top notch! Pantara knew what they were doing and ran a phenomenal experience. The included lunch and photos/videos were an awesome takeaway to an unforgettable day.
The cooking class was by far my favorite thing we did on the trip. Our chef and his team were extremely kind and did a great job explaining the farm and what we were doing. It was so cool cooking outside with fresh ingredients and the take home cookbook was awesome. We have already tried to make some of the recipes we cooked in the class since we have been home.
I think the bike tour was Steve’s favorite experience. He loved getting off the main roads and checking out the town. Our guide was really cool to and gave us some awesome local insight.

Phuket was, well AMAZING! I think that was by far the most amazing hotel I have stayed at. Our room was nothing short of PERFECT for the final week of our honeymoon.

It was the perfect way to close out our trip and indulged in a little R&R. We didn’t take advantage of any excursions while on Phuket but instead just enjoyed the villa and beach. WE got lucky and only had a little rain since we were coming close to rainy season. The hotel staff was top notch and even let us check-in early and out late with no additional charge – which was awesome. They were very friendly, helpful and overall made our experience one we will never forget. My the end of the week, most event knew us by name.

In all, this was an awesome vacation and one we will not soon forget. Thanks for all your hard work making is so perfect for us!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Katie & Steve for sharing your memories and your photos! I appreciate you two for trusting the recommendation of Thailand and letting me plan your dream honeymoon for you – I cannot wait to see what journeys you’ll be taking in the future, congratulations on your marriage!
