The One&Only Cape Town

After our night spent at Birkenhead, we returned to the heart of Cape Town to stay at one of my all-time favorite properties: the One&Only Cape Town. While this hotel wasn’t included in the itinerary I’d won, I knew I had to schedule it in for my parents to experience. For a first timer’s trip (or more!) to CPT, this truly is the best 5 star option, especially in terms of location.

If I could design a hotel, it would look and feel just like the One&Only Cape Town. Sexy, modern rooms, an incredibly warm, inviting staff, and common areas that are always buzzing with just enough of a social life – not to mention views of Table Mountain that will take your breath away.

The property welcomed us with some chilled rooibos tea and an early check-in (a room ready before 11?! That alone deserves an award), giving us time freshen up before taking a quick trip to Table Mountain.

While I don’t usually love super touristy attractions, taking the cable car to the top of Table Mountain is an exception. The views from the top are stunning and well worth the lines, which weren’t too terrible when we went.

After seeing the One&Only, my parents asked if we could hurry back to have a down day by the pool. All they wanted to do was enjoy the hotel – which is so funny for a family that usually likes to experience as much as possible while on vacation. I guess it didn’t hurt that our Virtuoso amenity was complimentary 50 minute massages (everyone who books this property through me gets one – and complimentary daily breakfast, which is amazing here!).

We enjoyed lunch at Isola, the property’s casual restaurant, while looking out at the resort-style pool, all situated on a private island in the middle of the lagoon, along with the One&Only spa. Guests can easily take a harbor tour by boat, jump on the hop-on-hop-off bus, or walk along the V&A Waterfront to the aquarium, mall, craft & food markets, and much more.

We spent the rest of the afternoon lazing by the pool, receiving our complimentary spa treatments, and then walking to dinner at Baia, a Portuguese seafood restaurant recommended by the concierge. This meal was easily the best we’d experienced in Cape Town – possibly in our lives – and even though we thought we had over-ordered with multiple fish and crustacean plates, we finished every last bite:

One more thing I’ll note about this property – the service is absolutely unbelievable. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful, and always able to not only meet, but exceed our expectations and requests. It is truly a first-class hotel, one that I’d encourage anyone visiting Cape Town to stay at. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

While we had four full days in Cape Town, my family left the One&Only wanting more of both the hotel and the city. I regretted not scheduling one more night into the itinerary, but that’s the sign of a great trip – when you’re never quite ready to leave. We’ll be back one day soon, Cape Town (and One&Only)!
