I’ve now visited the Park Hyatt St. Kitts three times in its short existence (it’ll turn two this November) and happy to report: it’s still the best kept secret in the Caribbean. Because the island itself is new to the luxury scene, getting to St. Kitts poses more of a challenge for some markets, but typically requires no more than a one-stop flight. This means, though, that tourism isn’t quite as overrun as the more established, easier-to-get-to islands, keeping this paradise as pristine as it is a value for your next vacation.
I initially visited the Park Hyatt St. Kitts to scout it out as a possible destination wedding venue – by the end of that weekend, my fiancé and I had signed a contract. There was no way the other spots we were considering (Maui and Cabo) could hold a candle to the still undiscovered scene and over-the-top service we experienced while on property that weekend.
The second visit I had to the property was to have and to hold from this day forward – my own destination wedding (more on the planning process at this blog post from last year) where I brought back my all time favorite souvenir, a husband.
Our wedding weekend exceeded our wildest dreams but, after visiting the property twice, we realized we still hadn’t actually vacationed at the Park Hyatt St. Kitts. We’d sent tons of clients, all of whom came back raving about the food, the people, the views and the rooms (life goals for me is to one day be able to afford the interior designer behind the rooms and common areas in my own home…which is also life goals to one day have). As our one year anniversary approached, we decided it was time to give it a try – this time, without an agenda, no events to be the center-of-attention, no guests to host (which was very, very bittersweet. We missed our people), just pure time to ourselves to vacation at the Park Hyatt.
Let me tell you: it was magnificent. As guests, we were able to see how incredible the service was on a day-to-day basis, not just for events. Every single person on this island, not just those who work for the resort, are genuinely happy that you’re visiting. The warmth of the Kittitian people surpasses any other culture in the Caribbean that I’ve personally experienced. It is hospitality at its most authentic.
Beyond this, the quality of the food and beverage on property is, in a word, perfection. We remembered this being a huge topic amongst our guests, who are still talking about the food served at our wedding, and have always had delicious, creative meals in the past. This time, visiting while vacationing, we loved (casually) devouring that seafood risotto from Fisherman’s Village and grabbing an Epperly cocktail at the Great House (that’s right, there’s a drink on the menu named after your favorite travel agency – now do you see why you’ve got to make your reservation with us!? We kind of have an in here…)
As we strolled around the resort one evening, we reminisced about the three-in-the-morning end to our wedding, where my groom jumped into the hotel pool after a (lost) dare. We got to appreciate the tiny little lights that dance throughout the pool from a new perspective: the same outlook you’ll have as a guest here. You’ll be blown away by the views of Nevis from the day, and even more charmed by the cascading waterfalls behind the cabanas at night. Oh, and definitely plan on reserving one of those cabanas during your stay, they are worth every penny for a relaxing day by the pool.
One year down, a million more to go, when it comes to our marriage – and we’re so thrilled to have a place as special as the Park Hyatt to return year after year to reminisce and celebrate. You’ll appreciate making this vacation spot your go-to, as well, whether you’re honeymooners or a family, there’s truly something for everyone.
