One thing has always been true: our free leisure time is one of our most precious assets. In 2020 we learned that it’s not a given to hop on a plane and visit any country on a whim. Now that the world is reopening, travelers are flocking to the experiences they never want to take for granted again. But it’s a very individualized decision to determine how and when you are ready to get back to traveling.
For years, our clients come to us with a precious gift to steward: their memories. So often we hear, “I have this dream in the back of my head to celebrate our 50th anniversary with the entire family, but it needs to appeal to 8-year-olds and 80-year-olds. How do I make this memorable for everyone?”
Present-day, our clients are coming to us with those same requests, but now in addition to seeking assistance crafting their memories, they’re asking for us to guard their safety. More importantly: each traveler is looking for what they perceive as safe, as it differs so vastly from person to person.
Travel has evolved throughout the pandemic in that it has become even more nuanced. In our opinion, it was never a good idea to crowdsource trip recommendations. Just because your friend loved that resort doesn’t mean you will or it doesn’t mean there isn’t a better fit for you and your family – but it’s especially important not to plan around other people’s preferences in this climate. So, before you even start planning, it’s wise to think through what kind of experience you’re looking for.
Since we specialize in customizing getaways, we’ve always taken our client’s preferences into consideration, like understanding their preferred hotels and travel history. But now we’re taking into account whether travelers want to visit someplace where no one other human will be in sight or whether the destination requires more than two COVID tests. Below are a few wise questions to ask yourself before you even start planning. This will help you – and your advisor – narrow down the best vacation experience for your needs:
– TESTING – Are you willing to perform a COVID test upon departure and/or reentry?
– VACCINES – Have you been vaccinated or will you be fully vaccinated by the time you travel?
– MASKS – Are you comfortable being in close proximity to others if everyone is masked? Are you comfortable being in close proximity if no one is masked?
– DISTANCE – Are you looking for complete seclusion with very little to no interaction with other guests, maybe even minimized interaction with on-site staff? Or are you missing social interactions and ready to hang out at the bar with new friends?
Keep these questions in your back pocket and answer them before you plan each trip, even if you’re doing one getaway now and one later in the year. While your preferences on a small and intimate hotel might not ever change, your preference on how you perceive and prefer your health safety might change as more measurements are put into place.
Travelers these days are facing the same challenges they had previously on top of an ever-changing world of travel restrictions and testing requirements and borders opening — and borders closing — and flights adding and dropping route, oh my. We have nearly 200 countries on this planet, and every one of those came up with their own plan for closing and every one of those has its own plan for reopening. When you’re talking about nearly 200 different protocols to navigate, you can easily see how this has become a travel advisor’s day in and day out job. While it is more than possible to travel — and worth it, when done right — it is more exhausting than ever to plan it.
So don’t let the planning or the navigating around the ever-changing travel landscape stress you out. Give us a shout at email@example.com or fill out our Request a Trip form here to make your travel plans easier than ever before.
