After visiting my first Viceroy property last year (Anguilla), I’ve been a little obsessed with the brand. Apparently, my clients are, too, since many of you have been booking and asking about the new Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort. This gorgeous property, situated right between the Piton Mountains (within a UNESCO World Heritage site, Val des Pitons!), is now managed by Viceroy and has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. I toured it years ago under different management and loved it even then – I can only imagine the incredible changes that the new Viceroy partnership has brought to it, which is why I dug a little deeper to tell you, lovely readers, just what you can expect out of the beautiful new Sugar Beach.
The property is set on more than 100 acres of rainforest, which makes it perfect for travelers looking for a combination stay (you have the beach and rainforest right on property!). The beach goes on for three quarters of a mile and the stunning Piton Mountain backdrop makes every site a breathtaking one. Sugar Beach’s location on the south side of the island is just a 15 minute drive from the town of Soufriere, which offers a lively market on Saturday, and is a short distance from Sulphur Springs, a drive in volcano, and the Diamond Falls and Mineral Baths.
On the property, guests can expect a luxurious decor with a real plantation flair – not quite as modern as the Viceroy Anguilla and not quite as bohemian as Viceroy Riviera Maya. That’s the beauty of Viceroy properties- they each maintain a distinct sense of place while offering the utmost in service and luxury. Sugar Beach offers an atmosphere of its own, combining a traditional Caribbean feel with the brand’s renowned contemporary flair. My favorite two room types are a complete toss up: the Luxury Villas nestled in the hillside are an amazing escape with their more traditional, plantation feel:
The Luxury Beachfront Bungalows, which are a little more contemporary in style, are situated directly on the gorgeous white sands of Sugar Beach. No matter which room category you book, though, you are guaranteed a private plunge pool and butler service – can’t beat that!
The property is open to a wide range of travelers, from honeymooners to families. Children can enjoy the Sugar Club, teens and tweens can partake in the Spice Club, and adults 18 and over will love the Cane Bar – not to mention a number or private areas designed with honeymooners and couples in mind. All guests are able to enjoy the fantastic on-site amenities, like the National Marine Reserve just steps off shore to provide incredible snorkeling, SNUBA, and diving (they even have a fully equipped PADI dive facility on the resort). Also, the Rainforest Spa here is unlike any other I’ve seen – it’s nestled into the treetops and offers cocoa and volcanic-based treatments that reflect the natural elements of St. Lucia.
For travelers interested in a little something different, St. Lucia truly stands out from the other Caribbean islands with its rolling green Piton Mountains and lush foliage – it’s not referred to as the Hawaii of the Caribbean for nothing! Now, with Sugar Beach as a resort option, guests can really enjoy all that the island is known for, like the UNESCO World Heritage location and the genuine hospitality of the people of St. Lucia.
Book this amazing property through me and receive complimentary breakfast, an upgrade upon arrival if available, and a $100 resort credit!
Big thanks to Molly, Tim, and the entire Sugar Beach team for providing me with an update on the hotel and for always taking such great care of my guests!
